My daughter is studying in Italy for the next nine months and is looking for a European equivalent to REI where she can but some camping supplies online without having to pay the high shipping costs from th US. Any ideas?

I know of Go Outdoors in the UK. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk She'd need to check the shipping fees from the UK to Italy and calculate for pounds to euros of course.

Decathlon is all over: http://www.decathlon.it/# They ship fewer camping items than they sell in their stores during peak camping season. But you'll actually find more offered online than in the stores during winter (when they feature skiing equipment).
