Italy in September

Flying into Marco Polo, staying with family in Pordenone. Previous trips to Rome, Florence, Assisi, Venice, Peruga(sp) were wonderful, now looking for low tourist areas, maybe more country side...off the beaten path places, any ideas?

lynn, Your family in Pordenone will probably have some good suggestions. Possibilities that come to mind are Padua & the Veneto, Verona (not exactly a "low tourist area" but thought I'd include it), Dolomites, Trieste or perhaps venture into Slovenia. Happy travels!

Check out Piemonte and Valle d'Aosta(sp?). Really not much to do in the Piemonte except drink the excellent wine, eat the delicious food and enjoy the beautiful views. Aosta is beautiful, ringed by snow covered mountains and has some interesting Roman ruins. It is a good area for hiking and there are castles to tour and it is close to Switzerland if you want to see the Alps

Check out Le Marche and Puglia. We're headed there in October and it looks wonderful.
