What do you think about weather and sight-seeing over a winter week in France? We obviously would like to spend a considerable portion of our short time in Paris, but would also like to see Normandy (a battlefield tour). Any other suggestions about how to break up 8 nights, flying in and out of Paris, in late December/early January? Merci!

Your plan is a good one--it's great that you're planning at least 5 nights in Paris. In January we traveled the opposite direction from your proposed trip. We spent time in Paris, then 2 nights in Beaune, and 4 nights in Lyon. Beaune off-season wasn't so much fun--restaurants were closed and it was very quiet. Lyon, on the other hand, was really fun--great restaurants and we enjoyed the markets along the river on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings. We also liked visiting the Greco-Roman ruins and museum. Lyon was about a 2 hour train trip from Paris leaving from Gare de Lyon.

Bonjour Gio! I think this is a great plan, hoping that the weather at the beaches is good. We're doing essentially the same trip with another couple in May: 5 nights with them in Paris, then 3 in Bayeux including Battlebus Tour, then one more night in Paris for their flight home although my husband & I get to go on to Bruges and Haarlem after Paris.
