hotel europa is very popular on this website. it's in the del sol area right in front of the metro exit. this area is very busy with lot of places to eat and drink and a big shopping center near by. you can take metro from airport directly. in general madrid has a lot of mall hotels you can choose from. trip advisor website will have plenty list.

We are a big fan of Hotel Europa 4 times in ten years. Puerta Del Sol is the heart of old Madrid. You can take the metro to the hotel but not directly - requires two changes. Much easier to take Bus 200 from in front of Terminal 1,2,3 directly to the metro stop Avenida de America. From there either the metro to P del Sol or a taxi.

I really liked the Hotel Opera which was near the Opera and the Palace.
