I'm ending a river cruise in Basel in April and have 2 1/2 days before we leave from Zurich. Where would the best place other than the alps to spend our time. Cruise ends on a Sunday and most sights are closed on Monday so that only leaves Tues. Had planned to stay in Basel until Tues than go to hotel near Zurich. Thanks for any info.

One thought would be a night in Lucerne. Very scenic there. Lucerne is 1hr15min from the Basel SBB train station. It's 45min to an hour to get back to Zurich HB (main station).

I like Luzern as well. I would stay in a hotel there instead of Zurich. There are direct trains from Luzern to Zurich Airport.

Diane, I'd also recommend Lucerne. I was there last year and had a wonderful time.
