Hotel du Champ de Mars, Paris

Can anyone who has successfullly made a reservation at this hotel tell me how long in advance they had to make it? I've tried to make one for next May for 11 nights, but get no response from the hotel. I KNOW that's a long way off, but I also know it's a very popular hotel, so when should I try again? Or should I just keep trying until they respond? I'm fluent in French, so I know they understand my request. Thanks

I found the same thing when I book for a trip in Sept 2009 - they did get back to me after a few days and we had a wonderful time at the hotel. Great location , and the staff was charming. In my experience it was worth the wait . I booked it in March of 2009 for the Sept stay .

As you are fluent in French, and you are asking for a lot of room nights, perhaps ringing them would be a good idea? Don't forget to add 7 hours to get French time...

We stayed at the Champ du Mars last Oct. and had made our reservation in January. We will be staying there this Oct. and again made the reservation in January. Both times I called to make reservation as we got no response by email. We thought it was a great hotel in a good location and are looking forward to this years visit. Good luck.

I had to email them twice. Had no problems with attitudes when I got there. Found them extremely helpful. The language barrier was non-existent. When you read what some other RS travelers (under the guidebook opinions page on this website) write about this place, you would expect to be treated poorly. We were never treated poorly. Never the case for us. But I did have to email them more than once. I booked a trip in May, emailed them twice in June for a 4 night stay in December.

We stayed there a couple times. I remember waiting a while before they got back with me. Seems like they booked when they get caught up with everything else. No new news here, but wanted to reply to echo the opinions re: location and staff. Enjoyed both immensely.

IMHO I would try someplace else. I know Rick "loves' the place. I can only assume they are polite when he is there, but I was unimpressed. The male half of the ownership team is in the wrong business and OPs "lack of response" is typical. They have so much business from Rick that IMHO they just take it for granted.

I agree with Carol. Both owners were very rude to us. We stopped in to see if we'd like to stay there on our next trip and both were really awful. I grew up in Paris and speak French, and we were exceedingly polite, so that wasn't the problem. I've also read many posts in the past from people who've stayed there and were treated badly. Another complaint is that no food / drinks are allowed in your room and the owners are very nasty if they catch anyone with food in their room or bringing it in.

I'm checking out places to stay in Provence for mai 2012 and finding the same thing - they don't respond immediately, and one fave place we want to stay told me to email again in January 2012 - seems the French do not believe in planning too far ahead.

Thank you very much everybody for taking the time to reply. We have indeed decided to look elsewhere! It's good to know it wasn't just ME! ha Since we're going to be there for 11 nites, we're now opting for an apt. I contacted Paris Home and "friendly Slim" who responded immediately to my email. Then we phoned him with the credit card info and were even more impressed with his helpfulness. If all goes well in May, my husband said, "Don't post anything about how great it was or it will turn into another Champ de Mars and we'll never be able to get in again!" He was halfway joking, but there is a LOT of truth to that. If you've stayed at one of Slim's apts., what was your experience? I hope it was good, because now we have our hearts set on it. Thanks again!

Remarkable what a phone call can accomplish, huh?
