Almalfi Coast

We fly into Naples, have 2 days before our stay on Capri, where should we stay on the coast that is accessible via train? In other words what is the favorite place on the Almalfi Coast?

where is your favorite place that is accessible by train is not that easy of a question. Sorrento is probably your best option, though it's not technically on the "Amalfi Coast" - it's the only one accessible by train and has good boat connections to/from Capri and good bus/boat connections to the coast itself. Or you could take the train to Sorrento and then boat/bus to one of the towns of your choice. boats to capri leave from all the main coast towns.

The Amalfi Coast lacks rail transport. You can get to Sorrento on one end and Salerno on the other. In between you need to rely on buses or ferrries.

amy, My suggestion would also be to spend a few days in Sorrento. It's a beautiful city, and while there you could take the short trip to Pompeii or Herculaneum. You'll travel there from Naples via the Circumvesuviana railway.

Hi Amy Another vote for Sorrento as a beautiful home base. We stayed at the Hotel Sorrento City which was only a few blocks from train ands bus station and was so handy to walking through Sorrento`s shopping and restaurant areas. Mike

Sorrento is a great place as a home base. You can travel easily to all the Amalfi Coast sites.

Sorrento is my favorite place in Italy. We've stayed at La Tonnarella 3x and really like it.
