7:15 flight from FCO (Rome)

We found a cheap (somewhat) flight from Rome to Munich but I'm wondering about the flight time of 7:15. How much time should we allow to get to the airport and check in for this flight? We are staying near the Vatican.

Thank you!

Is this ok or should we look for something later?

There are two different situations here. IF you are flying directly to the US, then you have to use the International terminal and that can be a zoo. If on the other hand, you are returning to the USA through a connecting point -- Munich, London, etc., then your flight out of Rome is a domestic flight and it is generally quicker through security, etc. I have known people who thought they were on international flights and wasted a lot of time in the International terminal only to learn that they were on a domestic flight to London or Munich and then to the states from another terminal. Two hours or even a little less should be fine for a Munich flight that earlier in the morning. However, Leonard Express is not an option because that would be too tight.

Thank you all so much for the help.

We are trying to decide whether to fly to Munich or take a night train. But, it is good to have all the facts before making a reservation. That's how I got into the mess of having to go back to Munich in the first place!

When I was in Rome aiport last year, there was a quiet long security line, longer than at JFK, but it was at a later time, around 2-3 PM. You might want to allow 2 hours before departure, just to be sure.
How are you going to get to the airport? I took the subway and train combo and it took a while, about an hour from Termini station. There is also a direct train from Termini, it takes less time, but it's more expensive.

You really need to be at Rome FCO 2hrs early. The problem will be how to get there that early. Yes there is the Leonardo Express from Rome Termini to Rome FCO but the first train doesn't depart Rome Termini until 5:52am. That puts you into Rome FCO no earlier than 6:23am. So the train option is out. You might have to invest in a taxi trip to the airport.

COTRAL offers night bus service from Tiburtina to Fiumicino with a stop at Termini. The last bus leaves Tiburtina at 03:45. See here: http://tinyurl.com/2ok5sf.

How long will it take to get there by taxi and any idea what the cost might be, especially if we are leaving very early?

We left from Rome to Athens in 2006 on a early AM flight. We had no problems checking in and getting to our gate. Maybe a 10 minute wait in the security line that morning. We stayed near the Main Termini and it took about 40 minutes to get to the airport, so I would suggest letting your hotel know that you need a cab the night before. I'd give yourself about two hours. The cafes at the airport weren't even open when we got there. I don't think they open until 7am. Which airline are you flying? Some ticket counters were much busier than ours. We flew Alitalia to Athens.

Also, I think our cab ride for two cost us about 70 euros!! It's quite expensive but a long ride and very early in the morning, so I guess that's how it goes in Rome.
