On Wednesday mornings in Vatican City after the pope has spoken, is it too crowded there to see the main sights? We are wondering if it's worth it or to pick a different day. Jan
Actually, the best time to tour the Vatican Museum is WHILE the Pope is speaking. No lines, no crowds.
We were just there last Wed while mass was going on. Afterwards there was a mass exodus of people leaving the City. I would go to the Museums while he is talking.. they say that you may not be able to see St Peter's Basilica on Weds.. but last Wed after the service it was open. The City wasnt as hectic as I thought it may be while he was talking. Not sure if it's b/c we happened to go on a less busy day or what. Just be prepared that you may have to stand in a crazy long line to get through security, unless you are on a skip the line tour.
