Sorrento

Can someone recommend a nice place to stay in Sorrento ? We will be spending 2-3 nights, using it as a home base to explore Capri, Pompei & the Amalfi Coast.
Thanks,

Pam, Could you provide a bit of clarification on "nice"? Are you looking for five-star luxury or more "basic" accommodations? What price range? Three places you might consider: > Settimo Cielo > La Tonnarella > Hotel Desiree Hotel Desiree and La Tonnarella share a common driveway. The view from the La Tonnarella restaurant over the bay at night is incredible! Happy travels!

We've stayed at La Tonnarella 3 times and love it. Very friendly, great restaurant w/outdoor dining on terrace in good weather, great breakfast buffet, nice rooms, private beach, new computer w/ internet in every room, incredible views. I recommend a room with a balcony.

HI Pam Highly recommend Hotel Sorrento City as great base. A few blocks away from train and bus station, marina, modern clean rooms, great staff, very good breakfast. Check them out. You won`t regret it Mike DC

We stayed at the Mignon Muebles in Sept. 2008. Easy walk with luggage from train, well located, clean, friendly, modest, nice little cont'l breakfast. Met our needs very well.

Pam, We were in Sorrento this November and stayed at the Antiche Mura which translated means Ancient Wall, which you can view near the entrance to the hotel. I can not say enough good things about this hotel, it is VERY Nice! The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and the entire hotel is very clean. Staff is responsive, kind and willing to please; breakfast and breakfast room are AWESOME! The breakfast room adjoins a very pretty garden area that you can walk in. The hotel is an easy walk from the train station, no need for a taxi and it is a short walk to Sorrento's main street. I have recommended this hotel to fellow travelers and they have all raved about it. Here is the hotel website, check it out: www.hotelantichemura.com

Pam .... You may need 4 nights in Sorrento if you plan to visit Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, unless you can do one on your arrival day in Sorrento (perhaps visiting Pompeii on your way to Sorrento). Maybe other people have discovered faster ways to do them, but we found each of those excursions took up most of a day.

You made a great choice. We've stayed at Antiche Mura twice in the last five years. Close to everything, great breakfast, clean rooms, friendly staff, your going to have a great time.

We stayed in one of those luxury hotels on a cliff overlooking the beautiful blue sea. The Grand Hotel Ambasciatori was a bit expensive, but I'm glad we did it.

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol. We had a beautiful room with views out to sea, so you could watch the fishermen coming in from the balcony. The food was excellent too. This was 15 years ago though! Al
