Hi, I am leaving in 3 weeks for France. We want to rent a car basically for 1.5 days and I know we will be charged for 2. The plan is to rent a car in Avignon and stay overnight in Rousillon and the next day to drop it off in Aix n Provence. We are getting ridiculous price quotes from 245- 800 euros! and I don't think that includes insurance, etc.. Is it better to wait until we get to Avignon and then rent? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks Susan
About 98% of people posting here reserve a car online in advance before their departure. I can't recall anyone here saying they got a better deal by waiting until they got to Europe. Try this site: http://www.autoeurope.com/carsplash.cfm?aff=RICKSTEVES
If autoeurope cannot help you with a better rate you might opt for a private driver or take a bus. Shorter than a week is always expensive. And yes always rent from USA bef leaving to get a better rate. In general France is more pricey than say Germany.
Try kayak.com and see what shows up. I'd be surprised if it were more than 125e per day for a real short term; my gut-shots are only for no extra insurance, however.
