5 Gadgets that may Ruin your Backpacking Experience (article)

I thought some people on this board would enjoy seeing this article. I found it interesting. My apologies if someone else has already posted this article--I did some looking around and haven't found it posted, but I could have missed it.

Here's the article:

The only gadget I usually travel with is a digital camera and the tools I need to recharge the camera. I definitely agree with the article about the hair straightener (although I would have broadened that category to include all devices that style hair).

Interesting article- can't totally agree with everything. Hubby would be lost with out his Iphone. It doubles as a "netbook" with itenerary info, mp3player, and video game. He also texts to stay in touch with work and family.

There were several other good articles mentioned at the end of this one, too.

Thanks for sharing.

"Is it still possible to travel with just a guide book and map?"

Yup, did that on our last trip to Italy. Got horrifically lost heading towards Piazza Navona despite the fact that I've been there before. Fortunately, we both found it more funny than anything else. We knew we were right near the place, just couldn't find a street that led into the piazza.

Like Lauren, I wouldn't bother using one for walking around but driving is a whole other story!

I like the point they're making about not having a GPS -- lots of your discovery will be enhanced by getting a little lost now and then.

That's not to say that I don't recognize their obvious worth while driving.
