Thanks, Frank II. It's a great read with both humor and wisdom. One rule not on the list that I try to follow and advise others to follow is this: Get lost somewhere. Some of my most memorable travel experiences have come when I've gotten lost.

Thanks for posting this!

My favorite:

  1. Try to take pictures of things that might change: street signs, people's shoes, homemade sandwich ads, key-maker tools, overly bright fashion, heavy metal haircuts, grandmothers selling a single toothbrush outside a Moscow subway station after the USSR fell. Old churches and statues rarely change much, some of that other stuff maybe gone tomorrow.

I thought is was a great list,, but I did take offence at him labelling musuems as " day fillers" .. just because some people do not enjoy museums we should not assume that all people just add them to their list of "must dos" so they can check off the boxes. I go to some places just FOR the museums.. LOL

I don't think he's condemning museums, just suggesting that you be selective, which is fine advice. I have one basic rule that I follow with all travel which is to take the earlier flight if offered! Or in other words, when traveling, always take the opportunity to move closer to your final destination! Even with checked bags this can pay off! Pam
