James~we loved the hotel, the staff and the location of the Hotel Aberdeen, a 3-star, but the rates depend on when you'll be there. We were last there in June, 2005.

The Hotel Aberdeen is a great choice. If you'd like to stay in a different part of Rome, you might have a look at Casa san Guiseppe in the Trastevere area.

Hi James, in February, 2007, my husband and I stayed at, and loved, the Hotel Britannia in Rome. At the time, it was in your price range, but I don't know about now. Bonus: a great restaurant just a block or two away, on the other side of the street - Trattoria d'Abbruzese (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).
