we are going to italy in Feb. / March for 2.5 weeks. We are planning on going to Venice then Rome. We need advice on a couple day trips . It will be winter time so were else can we go to have fun ? No skiing.

Are you flying into Venice and out of Rome so that you don't have to backtrack? I would definitely stop off in Florence for several days possibly doing a day trip to Siena.

You can do a day trip to Naples to see Pompeii or Herculaneum. The Naples Archeological Museum has the best original Pompeii tile pictures. Would be hard to see both in 1 day. Could also stay in Naples, do that 1 day and do the -oh, someone help me!-the pretty drive outside Naples.
