What are you using to check hotel prices. What web sites? I like www.hrs.com myself.
You can always check out the hostels.
We stayed at the Hotel Winzenberg in the tiny Rte du Vin town of Blienschwiller. In 2004, the price of a deluxe room (with balcony) was 48 euros, including a substantial breakfast. It was not only cheap and clean, it was actually charming. We found it on karenbrown.com, but I think they also have their own website. Also, we just returned from Europe; and we stayed in Staufen, Germany for a few days, which was close to Colmar. The hotel was the Die Krone, which cost 85 euros, a little over your range, but very nice. Also from Karen Brown. In fact, my recommendation is that you go to her site to search. Many of her listings are inexpensive, and we've always been happy with them. Another good source (for France) is www.specialplacestostay.com.
You can try looking on www.bandb-ring.de if you like staying at a bed and breakfast. This is for Germany only as the address indicates.
Try Maison Jund in Colmar. We loved it!
