South of France

Several years ago,maybe 2004? we stayed at a lovely small hotel in Vernet-les-Bains, Le Mas Fleuri. It was very reasonable, and because it was not yet high season, we were upgraded to a better room than we had reserved, which had a balcony overlooking the park-like grounds. There is a pool heated by the hot water flowing from underground springs. The breakfast was very good. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and made some good restaurant recommendations. The location is fine for visiting Perpignan and the many interesting medieval villages of the area, as well as for hiking in the mountains.
