Side Hotel in the old district, walking distance to the Blue Mosque and the Aya Sofia. I was there 3 years ago, wonderful place. Pay more for a bathroom in your room, pay less for one down the hall.

I haven't been to Istanbul myself but when I go I'd love to stay at the Grand Hotel de Londres, quite a historic place!
It's THE hotel my favourite German/Turkish film director Fatih Akin stays everytime he visits the city. And it's featured in a few of his films, including "Crossing the Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul"

We were in Istanbul in May and stayed 7 nights at Hotel Sultan Hill--in the old town just behind the Blue Mosque and near the Sultanahmet Metro stop. Very clean, great location, helpful staff and a nice breakfast included in the price. We got a 15% discount with Rick Steves 2009 Istanbul book.
