Accommodations in York, U.K.

We're looking for a nice air conditioned hotel centrally located in York, UK. Any suggestions?

Quick reply as this is not the best forum.

I would look for a Premier Travel Inn or a Travelodge. Nothing spectacular, fair price, with AC.

Use tripadvisor.com for reviews and perhaps some other specialties or b an b type places

We like the Royal York. It is next to the rail station and only a 5 min. (or less) walk to the center of town. And the walk has beautiful views of the river, the wall, etc. Not cheap, but reasonable. Eat at Gert and Henry's- near the market and The Shambles- excellent!

WE stayed at the Ramada Inn on the river and across the bridge from center of town. Very modern, convenient and the best breakfast.

The B & B 23 St. Mary's is very pleasant. A quick Taxi ride from the train station. I do not remember if it has air conditioning.

Ok, York native here.
The hotel opposite the Minster is the Dean Court, not the Acton Dean.
The only Ramada I know is the Farfield Manor, which is out of the city.
The two hotels on the river in the city are the Queens and the Park Inn.
A/C is VERY rare in the UK. I don't know of a single b/b in York that has it.

Leonie in York:

Thank you for replying. I think it is especially nice when a resident responds to inquries about hotels and other accommodations. Hotel names change over the years and what was once the Ramada is now something else.

Thank you, to all of you who have been so kind to reply. It's very hard for me to keep August and 'scorching hot' separated in my Dallas mind.
