My husband and a colleague will be attending a math conference in Metz, France July 5-8. My 10 year old son and I will be tagging along. We were hoping to avoid staying in a hotel but I can't seem to locate any B&Bs that are not more than a 30 min. drive to Metz. We will have a rental car but will be splitting up for the day with my son and I heading off to Paris, etc. We would be happy to take a train while my husband uses the car or vice versa. Does anyone know of any smaller B&B oozing charm that would not be too far away and off the beaten path? If not, does anyone recommend a hotel in Metz? This is our first trip abroad and we are trying to keep from reverting to the easy route of staying in a hotel and would like to be as close to the ground as possible. Thanks so much!

Did you check the Logis de France website? They focus on small family owned hotels and b and bs and have lots of listings all over France.
