3 nights in May after Tuscany

We’re spending a week in Europe for our anniversary in mid May. We will spend the first half in Tuscany (outside San Gimignano) where we got married. Then we have about 3 nights before flying back home to the US.

We’re okay with a quick nonstop flight or returning somewhere we’ve been. For this trip we would love great scenery, relaxing with food or drinks at cute restaurants with a view, maybe a spa day, walkable towns, and nice weather. We’re not huge history or museum buffs.

We are considering:
- Spend more time in Tuscany in another area
- Cinque Terre (have done a day trip previously)
- Sardinia
- Sicily
- Dolomites (weather not ideal in May?)
- Santorini
- Dubrovnik, Croatia
- Montenegro
- Mallorca (have been before but loved)
- Somewhere else in Spain (not Madrid or Barcelona)
- Puglia
- Portugal (maybe Lagos, have been to Lisbon and Porto)

Or any places you have been and absolutely loved that we haven’t thought of. Thank you!

Perhaps I'm guilty of thinking inside the box, but wouldn't a determining factor be the location of your departure airport and the need to be there or close by the night before you leave? How much time would be needed to get to your next place, and how much time to get to your departure city? How much time does that leave you to enjoy that place? I guess what I'm saying is, pick someplace close by, unless you want to spend most of your time in transit.

I'd add it to the Tuscany or a neighboring region--where are you planning to fly in/out?
If you are more interested in breaking up the trip home, then take a look at Malaga.

Thank you! We don’t have the flight home booked yet. Unfortunately with our home airport we are guaranteed to have 1-2 layovers regardless, or will have to position ourselves to major cities like LHR or CDG which we have done in the past.

Once we have our destinations narrowed down a little more then we will compare travel time to get there and flights home which will definitely help us make our final decision.

Since you have many more options than time, I would let the flights dictate for sure, but that is another plus for Italy--get there the easiest way and stay put until you have to leave!
Try Pisa airport, lots of spa towns in its vicinity.

You are ONLY in Europe for ONE week. Skip any distant travel and stay in Italy. You can easily do all your time in Tuscany, however, if you want to see another area, consider Umbria, not far from Tuscany (Orvieto is great and if you fly out of Rome it is on the way. Other cities are Spoleto, Assisi and Perugia.

Have you been to Venice? It is a very romantic city, perfect for couples. The Veneto is a nice area to visit.
For great scenery, the Dolomites. (We have stayed in Aosta and were charmed by it.) Sicily needs more than three days. The Sorrento area is nice, and a day trip to Capri is romantic. I agree that a week is a short time for distant travel. Italy has so much to offer, I would stay there. Each area has its assets.

Thank you everyone for the advice! We visited Venice and honeymooned in Positano last year, We did not see Sorrento and Capri though so those could be options. We would also love to see the Dolomites, but I’ve read that May might not be a great time to visit.

Agreed that staying in Italy would be the easiest and continuing on in Tuscany/Umbria. We will likely lean towards that. I appreciate the recommendations and will look into those towns mentioned.
