kat, It's difficult to recommend restaurants without having some idea on which part of Berlin you'll be staying in? Also, what type of restaurants did you have in mind?

I'll be just southwest of the city center. Do they have a good transit system? Looking for a place maybe on the river w/ outdoor seating....although the weather lately has been a bit wet. Mainly, some good German food. Anything else you can throw in would be great, as I haven't been able to do much research.
Thanks!

People in Germany will sit outside no matter what the weather, so you shouldn't have a problem finding a cafe or restaurant with outdoor seating. Plus, it is usually the smoking area. Restaurants have the menus hanging up outside, so you can check out the prices and food offered, and then just look for places that have some business. I find asking your hotel front desk clerk or the person waiting on you in a store where their favorite near-by place to eat is will garner you some good places. Go to places that aren't next to tourist attractions is the best advice I can give you. That said, I have seldom had bad food anywhere in Germany. Have fun in Berlin!

It isn't near where you're staying, but if you're in the neighborhood... Schiffbauerdamm runs along the river just north of the Friederichstraße Bahnhoff. You will find several restaurants along this street, some of which have riverside seating. It's within walking distance of Unter den Linden.

Hi, Have you got the name of the district where you are staying? Southwest of the so-called city center....Wilmersdorf? Schöneberg? If you're going to be in Charlottenburg, I can give you recommendation but Charlottenburg is more west from the center. Berlin has an excellent transit system, be it S-Bahn, U-Bahn or the buses. Which subway (S or U) is closest to you?
