3 Country Itinerary Help Needed

Hi there!
I am in the beginning stages of planning a vacation for a group of 8 - 10 people. We want to start in Venice, make our way to Paris, and end in London. I would love to hear your suggestions on the itinerary and any insight you have is appreciated! We are looking at 2 weeks. Thanks!

Fly in and out of Venice and London airports. Spend three nights in Vencie then fly nonstop to Paris. Paris deserves five nights and this does not include day trips. Take the Eurostar https://www.eurostar.com/us-en from Paris to London (2h 30m) and sleep in London for six nights.

Agree with Mary Pat's itinerary. Fly on a multicity ticket into Venice and out of London. Separate one way flight ticket to Paris. Eurostar ( buy as far in advance as possible for best prices) to London.

Welcome to the Forums, courtneykjacobs, Courtney - good to have you here

Venice is quite a long way from Paris, and a group of 8 to 10 people probably moves fairly slowly (can you define the group in a bit more detail? College friends or extended family, seniors, kids?), at the speed of the slowest person, so I hope that you give Venice enough time to be valuable to all 10.

How did you envision getting from Venice to Paris? You could fly, but many of the flights within Europe from Paris are at silly o'clock in the morning so not pleasant. Or you could take trains, via Milan and either Switzerland or Turin. Either way it is a long travel day.

I love Venice, but sometimes folks who rush Venice wind up not liking it - she requires enough time.

I'm concerned that with 3 major destination geographically spread you may find that 2 weeks is cutting it tight.

Venice - Munich (for a good beer) - Paris - London

To and from Munich there are night trains operating.

Don’t take the night train. It’s a scenic train ride. Do it in the daytime !

Thanks everyone for your help! I apologize, I should have included additional information. We will have a group that ranges in age from 40 to 10. Paris and Venice are our only two "musts" for this trip, so if London is too much we can explore that option at a later time. We are open to what those 2 weeks should look like as long as we spend some time in both Paris and Venice :)

With a group that large, and with the age range of those on the trip, my suggestion is to limit youselves to only two places. A lot of time is lost with each relocation. And everybody will not be up to maintaining the same pace. Since Venice and Paris are your "must see" places, fly into Venice, spend a week, and fly to Paris for a week. Both places have more than enough to keep everyone busy for that amount of time. It will also allow those who want to take day trips to do so while the others do other things.

I agree completely with what TC says. That's a lot of people to shuttle, keep fed and needing bathroom and/or rest breaks.

I would go London then Eurostar to Oaris for three nights. Go to Lyon a night or three. Then it’s 4.5 hours to Milan and another 2 to Venice. I would stay 2 nights in Venice or outside the city, it’s a zoo. Then fly back to London. Thus allows you to make further stops on the way or not too much out of way. Beaune, Dijon, Chamberly, Turin, Milan, Como, Lake Maggiore, Bergamo, Verona.

The train is a great way to travel in a group because you can sit and talk with different people and enjoy the scenery. Walk around and go the bathroom. I usually try to plan it so that each train trip is only an hour or two so I can change every night. I just have a short little travel time so I see a lot of cities in a short amount of time.

When is this trip? The Olympics are in Paris this summer...

I love Venice, not least because I'm a glass nut. I spent about 10 days there in 2022 and am returning this year for a slightly longer stay. I think a week in Venice is rather a long time for the typical visitor, and lodging will be expen$ive there. Do not try to save money by staying in Mestre or anywhere else outside the islands. You want to have time to enjoy the city while it's not full of day-trippers.

I'd want more time in Paris than in Venice (if you're clear of the Olympic crush, which I'm afraid you may not be).

The train trip from Venice to Paris is very long, starting at 11 hr. 20 min. Flying seems better unless you want to make a stop along the way, and even then you'd have two nearly full days of sitting on trains. That would be too much of a good thing for most people.

You can check out the flight schedules on skyscanner.com. Buy your tickets from the website of the airline operating the flights. Keep in mind that in many cases the fare displayed doesn't include a luggage allowance that would be adequate for many people. Your carry-on bag may be weighed as well as measured, and there may be size limits on your "personal item". Read the baggage-policy details for the various airlines; don't just compare the fares you see on the list of departures.

If you're traveling during the summer, you should take a look at the lodging situation in Paris immediately, to be sure you'll be able to find something that's affordable for you. Booking.com is a place where you can get an idea of the situation, but rates on the hotels' own websites may well be lower--and there may be rooms on the hotel websites when booking.com shows they are full.
