Eurorail

We will be arriving in Paris, then traveling to Munich. Going to salzberg, Prague, Vienna, then to Lake Como and Rome from there, ending up back in Paris. Is the unlimited travel pass the right choice?

"It would definitely cost you more if you bought 5 individual tickets." Not necessarily true. Check the French railway site, the German Rail site, the Austrian national rail site, and the Italian rail website to compare prices for your particular itinerary. Many trains require extra reservation/supplement costs that can add significantly to your pass costs. And you won't be able to take advantage of some significant savings available on the web, especially if you know which days you plan to be travelling. From your post, it looks like you'll be travelling at least seven days. As an adult, you'll pay $570 US for a Eurail pass, or about $80/day for travel alone. If you're under 26, you'll pay $435 US, still $60/day of travel. Doing the research may save you a considerable amount of $$$.

I'm with Norm. Passes arent nearly the deal they were back in the day. Point to Point, bought in advance, online, frequently will save you money.

As much as some here poo poo RailEurope, I've had great success using them...many times better deals than on the railways own sites.

This past Xmas we saved a ton on the Eurostar--way more than on Eurostars own site.

Ya gotta do your homework.
