21 days Europe Trip - Milan, Paris, Switzerland on December

Hello,

This will be my first time travelling to Europe from the US. I am planning on travel to Milan (might consider Rome), Paris, and Switzerland on December for 21 days including arrival and departure day.

What would be the ideal itinerary for this 21 day trip, my main point of entry will be Milan (for some reasons), and considering going to Rome before traveling to Paris and Switzerland. I plan to celebrate Christmas day on Switzerland (considering Zermatt or Lucerne)
Maybe 3 days Milan, 4 days Rome, 5 days Paris, and 6-7 days Switzerland, and the last days back in Milan.

Also, what would be the ideal "Travel Pass" should I consider purchasing, should it be the Eurail Global Travel Pass and/or Swiss Travel Pass?

If you look at a map you will see that a logical order is Rome - Milan - Luzern or Zermatt - Paris. That is a route where it would make sense to do all by train.
However an Eurail Global Pass does not make sense here. Just buy tickets for the long trips in advance, and local trips locally. Whether a pass for Switzerland makes sense depends on how long you plan to stay, and what you plan to visit. So maybe tell us a bit more...

Update: I have revised my itinerary and planned to the following:

Arrival at Milan, 3 days in Rome, back to Milan, then Plane to Paris for 4 days, back to Milan, then Train to Luzern - Interlaken - Zermatt.
Should we stay somewhere instead of Zermatt for Christmas?

Sorry, this still is not a very logical route, you pass through Milan like 4 times:

Arrival at Milan, 3 days in Rome, back to Milan, then Plane to Paris for 4 days, back to Milan, then Train to Luzern - Interlaken - Zermatt and go back to Milan again for the flight I presume??

Milan -> Rome -> fly to Paris -> Luzern/Berner Oberland/Zermatt -> Milan is the more logical route here. Unless you have specific reasons to be in Milan again in the middle of the trip of course!
