People are already starting to plan for next year’s Christmas Markets. So, and especially since I have been to so few markets, I sort of randomly checked 15 “best of …” lists online. I tried to do it randomly but did look for organization or website names that I knew and did throw out the lists longer than 20 and did throw out the country specific lists and I did throw out reprints of the same list. Do read them because the good ones have more than a list. Some rank them, some had enough information that you could get a feel about what the market emphasis is and some listed some of the other attributes of visiting them.
I counted how many times each city made one of the the lists in the theory where there is smoke there is fire. I am not saying I agree with any of this. Just food for thought and maybe a new name will pop up that someone might want to research and consider. Because the topic is close to the German members, someone might want to do something simiar with just Germanic markets.
So, In more or less alphabetical order (with the ones that show up in the AI surveys Mark suggested are shown in bold ... but number not added. As you can see the two AI engines when asked for the top 10 European Christmas Markets came up with about the same list):

Budapest, Prague, Vienna With what little I know, if I had to pick a winner between these three, this year I would choose Vienna. They seem to be doing all the right things while the Hungarians are struggling a bit. Prague? I dont know. Its one of those places I think everyone should see, but just doesnt light my fire.

Strasbourg, Cologne The market in Cologne is one of the few I have been to, but it was a long time ago. Then it was good, now, dont know.
