2 weeks in Serbia or Hungary

So, we have been to Romania and Czech Republic and now we would like to visit either Serbia or Hungary for 2 weeks, but only one country. What do you think? We like nature, architecture, landscapes like mountains, rivers and wildlife, rural and traditional villages, museums and food. Will Serbia or Hungary tick all our likes? Do you know of any reputable company that organise personal tours/itineraries in Serbia or Hungary? We are thinking of coming for the last 2 weeks of October. We would like to base ourselves in 3 locations and then take day trips from there. One of the bases will be Belgrade / Budapest. Thanks.

In Serbia I have only been to Belgrade and while I throughly enjoyed it, I see it as at best 2 full days (3 nights). I've done some research for a return trip to Serbia an I am pretty sure I could enjoy 7 days there, and my taste is similar to yours. When we were there Serbia Air had a direct connection between Belgrade and Budapest which cost about $75 and took about an hour. If they have resumed that flight or if someone else is making that connection it makes doing both Serbia and Hungary very feasible. I have spent about a years worth of time in Hungary over the past dozen years and am still scratching the surface. So, yes, you can spend a couple of weeks with your activity list and not get bored.

In both countries I can direct you to good guides. Right now I am traveling but will PM some names and resources when I get back to the states next week.

Hi,

What a choice! Two weeks in just one of the 2 countries? If you don't have specific sites, historical or otherwise, which you are desperately aiming to track down, ie, top priority, in the course of this two week visit in Serbia, I suggest starting with Hungary using Budapest as the introduction.

For two weeks, Hungary! But late October can be getting a little grim weather wise . . .

Naaaaaa, my favorite time in Budapest is 15 September to 15 October more or less. A little later is still good. Heck I just left Bpest a few days ago after 2 weeks in February and had a great time with surprisingly good weather. Even cold, early sunset, the town goes on living.
