Has anyone slept near the old town in Nurnberg? Want to be close to the Christmas Markets.
We stayed in Castle Veldenstein which is about a 25 minute direct train ride from Nurnberg. The castle experience was very unique, and added to the excitement of European travel. Our rooms were huge, clean, high up with a view and included breakfast. It was also very very cheap.
If you're young-ish and cost is a concern, a section of the Kaiserburg serves as a youth hostel. From this location, you're within a few minutes walk of the Christmas Market.
There are three different Ibis hotels right outside of the main train station. Just walk across the street (or under it) and go through the main gate and your in the Old Town. The U-Bahn also has three stations within the Old City, so its easy to get to.
I recently stayed at one of the Ibis hotels. It is indeed right across the street from an entrance to old town. Nice enough hotel with a decent breakfast. I think the link below will get you to it.
