Trip Ideas

We are flying to Frankfurt and we are looking for possible ideas on train travel for 10 days to end back in Frankfurt. We have been to Prague so we can skip it but we would like to see Krakow and possibly Budapest if its not just too much in 10 days. How about a sample itinerary of how to spend 10 days. Thanks

Hi Lee,
Just a quick check of train schedules says that Budapest is a 15 hour train trip from Frankfurt and Krakow is 16 hours. Would you consider Berlin--a 4 hour train trip? Also, you could check www.whichbudget.com to see if a budget airline flies from Frankfurt to either Krakow or Budapest--probably Air Berlin.

We would consider any stops along the way and we rarely stay more than 2 days in any place and often only one. We prefer trains so any ideas as to a possible set of routes would be good even all night sleepers are ok . We want to see as much as possible but not live on a train. Thanks

How about spending the first day in Frankfurt (http://www.frankfurt.de/sixcms/detail.php?id=317578&_ffmpar[_id_inhalt]=177743 Download the self-walking tour from the right hand side column), then taking the train to Berlin but make a stop en-route at either Erfurt or Weimar for around 2 or 3 hours to see the historical oldtowns. Erfurt is like a mini-Florence. From Berlin where you need at least 2 full days take a train to Dresden (visit baroque old town for 3-4 hours) and Görlitz (worth half a day as well) from where there are good connections to Krakau.

If you are doing Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava would be naturals (you have already seen Prague).

Considering travel and the number of potential sites, seeing the three could be a good ten day trip, especially if you add travel to Krakow.
