14 days - looking for daytrips

Wife and I (in our 50s)
are planning 14 days+- starting with 4 days outside London and ending with 4 days in Mainz during late March / early April. We are figuring on 3 (inexpensive) anchor cities in between (maybe 3 hr.s max betwixt). We will travel around by train and are looking for good places to daytrip out of.
Food, wine, beer, history, beautiful countryside are our priorites. Considered: Lillie, Reims, Liege, Strasbourge, but open to anywhere else.
Thank You!

It's possible to do Reims as a day trip from Paris. It will be a loooong day and a rushed one to boot. You might consider a one night stay in Reims. Arriving early in the morning and leaving late the next afternoon you should give you all the time you'll need. Two restaurants come to mind. Across from the cathedral (Chagall glass) is Au Bureau with outside tables and is good for lunch. The other is Le Gran Café on Place Drouet for dinner. We went to the Martel champagne place and enjoyed the tour. Easy to get to on the city bus from the area of the train station. The Museum of the Surrender (?) where the peace treaty ending WWII is also well worth a visit.

Hi,

I recommend going to Reims, easy as a day trip from Paris Est, for both the cathedral and the Museum suggested above where in 1945 the Germans signed one of the three surrenders to Western Allies. Instead of Lille another day trip from Paris Nord very doable is Amiens. Time -wise it's even possible to do a day trip to Strasbourg from Paris Est, did that myself in 2009.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Right now looks like we will will stay outside London for 4 days, travel to Reims for 3 days, head to Maastrict for a couple days, then Mainz.

Is there any advantage to going before Easter in March or right after Easter in April?
