Leave Casablanca not worth the effort, Costa del sol or Costa Blanca are better options than Costa Brava. How are you getting about train or car?

If by train take the train form Barca to Madrid then Train from Madrid to Seville where you can fly with Ryanair to Marrakech for around €40-€60 each. If you are flying back to Canada from Madrid maybe fly from Barca to Seville with Air Vueling they are a Spanish budget airline.

I agree, Casablanca was not much to see except for the new grand mosque. You will like Fes and the desert. We did a trip from Agadir.

I was not impressed with the beaches in Costa Brava or Costa Del Sol in Spain. I would skip the beaches.

Spend more time in Madrid, there is a lot to see there as well as Segovia and Toledo nearby.

We are planning to go by train. We are still in the planning stages trying to figure out the best means of transportation from one place to another. Which city to fly to Marrakech from- is it from Barcelona or Madrid. Our itinerary is still flexible so we are open to suggestions. Yes- we might do Segovia too. Right now Im thinking buy one way ticket to Marrakech from
Barcelona then buy another one way ticket from Marrakech or Casablanca to Madrid. Fly to Toronto from Madrid.

If you don't already have your transatlantic flights booked, look into flying directly into or out of Casablanca. (Yes, the city itself should be skipped.) That way, you have just a one-way flight from Morocco to Spain or vice versa. Many years ago I flew into Casablanca on a Morocco/Spain/Portugal trip, and it worked out well.

I loved Fes, which seems to be the craft capital of Morocco.

I urge you not to pre-pay for any tours on your arrival day after your flight from Canada. I think there's too big a risk that you will be zombies that day. I can't imagine wanting to trek to Montserrat that day, much less tackle a full-day tour. Perhaps Parc Guell would work out, since it's local and would have you outside. But I'd wait at least until I had a 5-day weather forecast before booking that visit. No tour is needed. La Sagrada Familia does require a pre-booked ticket to avoid the otherwise-likely long line at the site. Again, you don't need to take a tour; there's an English-language audio guide.

Given the condition you may be in on October 5, you'll only have two full days in Barcelona. Much as I love Girona, I wouldn't pre-book anything outside Barcelona before arrival. I think you may be happy to spend all that time in the city. Girona can be visited on your own by hopping on a fast train. There's a lot to see there, but your guide book will be all you need.

We have not booked our transatlantic flights yet. I like the suggestion of flying out of Casablanca to Toronto instead. I will rearrange our itinerary. Will study going to Girona from Barcelona on our own. I should look for hotels near the train station so we can just go to Madrid easily. Thank you for the wonderful suggestions!

Vueling has direct flights Barcelona-Fes on 10/7 or Barcelona-Marrakech on 10/8. These don't run every day. On Saturday, 10/14, it looks like you have direct flight options to Madrid from several Moroccan cities (per www.skyscanner.com): Fes, Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier, and Casablanca; and of course they also run the other direction. Fes needs at least two nights and a full day for sightseeing. Train from Fes to Casablanca takes about 5 hours.

Agree that Casablanca is not worth a stop (unless you really have to pass through). Fes and Marrakech are where you want to be.

Note that flights on low cost airlines (there are several) between Morocco and Spain (and other places in western Europe) are super-cheap and easy, but they generally do not go every day (typically every 2 or 3), so plan carefully.

I'm not sure that flying directly in to or out of Morocco is going to save you any money - compare total costs. It might save you some time, though...which could be even more constrained...

You have (at best) 11 full usable days (not counting days spend flying to/from Toronto) - and that's assuming you recover quickly and are not a zombie on your first post-arrival day there. Then, you're going between Span and Morocco (once, maybe twice), so you're down to just 9 (or maybe 10) days when you're not flying somewhere. It takes time to get between major destinations in Morocco, too (the train between Fes and Marrakech consumes pretty much a whole day; getting out to the deep desert takes a day, then a day back). My point is, you have pretty limited time. I think you can do your trip (more or less) as you're planning, but you need to guard against doing too much moving around.

Ideally, it would be great to add a few days to your trip if you can possibly. If not...well, you get a few days in Spain and a few days in Morocco. Nothing wrong with that, but there's so much to see/do in each country...
