Big London Underground strikes

(there are pointers to this thread in England and Transportation sections of the Helpline)

Usually called off before they start, this time 2 big strikes will go ahead on London Underground very soon.

According to the official Transport for London website,

"Two 48 hour Tube strikes have been called for 4-6 February and 11-13 February. On Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 February, some services are likely to operate between 7.00am and 11.00pm, with no services outside of those times."

For up to date updates see their page http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/default.html

This is quite serious and there will be inconvenience around these strikes. If you will be in London during these times I suggest you check on updates.

Nigel,

Thanks for the information, as I'm sure it will be useful to someone in the group here. How often do these strikes occur, and what's the issue this time?

Thank you, Nigel. I've been missing your posts on all things England. I'm planning a trip and found your posts to be very helpful. This strike is just for the Underground and not the rail system, I hope. Jenny

Past experience is that there won't be a total stoppage. Staff in the ASLEF union, other unions and non-union staff could well be attending work. This has a different effect on each Line with some having a greater percentage of these staff than others, so the train services run will be dependant on that, as will the opening of particular stations. This may also differ at shift changes and therefore difficult to predict in advance. Keep the TfL site handy.

It has just been announced by TfL and the Unions that the strike scheduled for tonight has been canceled.
