Trying to figure out what kind of clothes to take. What is the usual weather in April?
Where in Italy? We'd like to help if you narrow it down to areas?
We are starting in Rome, Assisi,Venice, Florence and Amalfi Coast.
The question is not so much what the "usual" weather is, but what you should be prepared for. 5 years ago we landed in Rome on Aril 12, where the temp was 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It reached a high of 40 that day, and we were miserable. The next few days were somewhat warmer (low 50's), but overcast and/or rainy. People joked that they had had summer the prior week and were now having winter. We were told, later, that it had actually snowed in Siena. By the end of our trip, the 1st week in May, we were on the Amalfi Coast; and people were swimming in the sea. Bottom line: at that time of year, the weather is extremely unpredictable and can vary drastically in a few days. Now I pack a fleece vest to layer under a longish rain jacket. A light-weight wool cardigan can be another layer or a wrap for a mild evening. I include a pair of gloves and a warm scarf. The last two items give you a lot of warmth bang for the space they take up in your luggage. Buon viaggio!
