I will not be visiting Barcelona as planned. My friends and I are meeting in Alicante. Anyone been and have any suggestions?

I went there years ago. I mean YEARS ago. I remember it as being a nice place, but then I was in the throws of first love and was visiting his family, so there were probably some rose coloured glasses involved.
