I am planning to visit Barcelona in September. I want to hang at one of the beaches for the day. Don't want to leave all my m,
oney hanging on the beach. Are lockers available and are they reliable?
I went to the beach by Port Olympic and no lockers. Your best bet is to leave your valuables in your hotel room and have a secure pocket in your swim trunks for your cash. There's lots of vendors walking around selling sangria for E5 a cup or massages for E5 for 15 minutes. We definitely enjoyed being "pampered" on the beach there! They even warned us not to leave valuables laying around. We had a great time!
Thanks claudette. Are the beaches nice?
Well,Steve, I'm from Huntington Beach which has 8 miles of beautiful natural beaches! I've read somewhere that Barcelona's beaches are man made but if so, they did a great job! The water was a bit cold in May but very calm. My kids loved being able to float in the calm water which they can't do here because we have pretty good waves and an undertow. Perfect for surfing/bodysurfing but not floating. And in Barcelona there's that added bonus of having drinks/snacks/massages available to you without having to hike to the snack shop. We loved our Barcelona beach day. At Port Olympic, you also get to see that Frank Gehry fish sculpture which is pretty cool.
I would say the beaches in Barcelona are okay, not great. They are convenient and nice enough for a day. I never saw any lockers, but I wasn't looking. There are some facilities at the different beaches but I can't recall any with lockers. If you want a nicer beach, you want to catch a train north or south to the natural beaches. For me, Arenys de Mar would be ideal (about 7 euro train ride if I recall correctly). Similar to Claudia, I grew up in San Diego and have pretty high standards (I preferred the remote beaches in Baja California).
