10 days in Maramures romania

Hi All
This is my first post.
Planning a trip walking in Maramures May 2017.
Mostly interested in scenery, wild life esp. large carnivores and the local way of life.
We would require simple accommodation maybe even camping and eating the local food.
We are also considering a guide
any suggestions please

I don't drive in Europe, so I took a 2-day tour from Cluj-Napoca to see part of Maramures. Our overnight accommodation was arranged by the tour organizer, though we paid separately, but I know that area is peppered with B&B-style places. At least some will provide lunch and/or dinner as well as breakfast. Good farm-raised food. Unbelievably inexpensive.

Maramures is a fascinating area where tradition still lives. You'll see people wearing what I would call "folk costumes" to church on Sundays, but clearly they are not costumes, they are their normal Sunday-church clothes. Both the wooden churches and the carved wooden gates are really stunning. There were stands selling embroidery near a couple of the more-visited churches, and it looked like the work was done locally, not imported from China.

For accommodation have a look on Tripadvisor, Booking, Airbnb and Visitmaramures. You can camping in many places, even in locals' gardens, if ask permission. To get a guide, search the list on visitmaramures dot ro.
To better understand the region, to talk with people, artisans, farmers, to enter in their backyard and see the real local way of life, yes, you definitely need a guide. Large carnivores very hard to spot, they are wilder and more shy than in Southern Transylvania, where they are fed regularly and meet often people. Scenery? Everywhere, half of Maramures is Natural or National Park.
