Hi, We will have 10 full days to see Vienna and Budapest this coming July. It will be our first time on both places. Do we split it 5 days even for both or does one country needs more time?
We plan to see the city and do short daytrips if possible. We are not sure yet but possibly wants to spend the night at either Salzburg or Hallstatt.
This is a last minute trip and we are just starting to plan our itinerary. Thank so much for your help.
I'd do 5 and 5. Another option would be a early train to Bratislava, a full day there, and on to Budapest.
Bratislava is only an hour from Vienna. My recollection was that Salzburg was four hours. There are some options for day trips to smaller villages from Budapest
Or instead of rushing for another day trip from beautiful Budapest, spend an afternoon lazing in one of the thermal baths and get completely relaxed.
Hi, thanks for your reply. I was wondering if better to do Bratislava from Vienna in a daytrip. If we do it on the way to Budapest, we have to store our luggages. Although we travel lighter on each trip but still something we have to lug with us while sightseeing.
Depends on where you've been and what you want to see and do. Personally, I'd add Salzburg and Hallstatt.
Visit Melk and Mauthasen memorial (concentration camp) on the way to Salzburg, where you spend 2-3 nights. Visit Hallstatt and the Lake District on the way back from Salzburg to Vienna. Split the rest of your time between Vienna and Budapest.
