Hello. Canadian seniors, visiting Paris for three nights before heading to Brussels in mid March 2027. We plan to see few sights as this will be my husband's first time in Paris but are hoping to see a few off the tourist path things as well. I have been searching and searching for a hotel in Paris for three nights, there are a lot of options! Wish list - quiet! close to a metro station, in a safe and pretty neighborhood, within walking distance ( an hour of walking) to both Notre Dame and Eiffel Tour , which I know are in opposite directions, private bath and ideally around $350 to $400 CDN per night, which is about 250 euros per night. We will be taking a train from Gare du Nord to Brussels after our time in Paris. Thank you kindly for your suggestions.
Given the excellent public transportation system, and how spread out the major tourist sites are, you are best served by having your accommodations close to a metro station and bus stop. If you look at a map of the Paris arrondissements, you see that they start at the 1st, where fhe Louvre is located, then spiral outwards, like a snail shell. Many forum regulars like to locate themselves in the 4th (the Marais), 5th (Latin Quarter), and 6th (St Germain des Préy).
You may try looking on booking.com, as it allows you to filter for area, budget, and amenities. I also trust the reviews because they can only be left by people who have stayed there. But book on the hotel's website where possible.
IMO, being nearer to Notre Dame is a better location for first time visitors to Paris. It puts you within easy walking distance to many of the sights in Paris with an abundance of cafes, restaurants, patisseries and shops.
Hotel Minerve in the Latin Quarter is a 10-15 minute walk to the Seine, Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, Luxembourg Gardens and the Pantheon with a 10 minute walk to the RER B station at St. Michel Notre Dame or a 5 minute walk to the Metro station to get to Gare du Nord.
Hotel Luxembourg Parc across from Luxembourg Gardens is about a 20 minutes to Notre Dame and the Louvre and a 10 minute walk to the Metro for your trip to Gare du Nord.
Given that you only have three nights, I would suggest staying in St. Germain as it is close to many places. Last year I stayed at the Hotel Left Bank on Rue de l'Ancienne Comédie in Saint Germain with my two teen/tween grandkids. I loved the location, and the hotel was very nice with a charming vibe to it. There is a small lift and the hotel has A/C.
Our room was very clean and very spacious. There were coffee and tea-making supplies, along with a kettle. The breakfast was an additional cost, but because I booked the hotel directly, it only cost €5 pp. The breakfast itself was quite good. There were not only breads and pastries, but creamy scrambled eggs, crisp sausage links, fruit, cereal, yogurt, and tomatoes and cucumbers.
The location was outstanding. It was a block from the Odeon Metro stop, about a 10 minute walk to Pont Neuf and Notre Dame, and it was very convenient to sights, cafes, boulangeries, pastry shops and much more. We only had to walk out the front door to find food and drink options everywhere. I would stay here again.
