Oysters in Cancale

We would like to stop for lunch in Cancale for fresh oysters. Can anyone recommend a restaurant/oyster bar?

We will be travelling in May.

No, sorry -- I'm more familiar with the area east of there, north of Granville.

A warning though: this time of year oysters in northern France are knee-deep (if they had knees) in their reproductive cycle and can be a bit milky in appearance and texture as a result. Once they've finished reproduction, usually around the end of summer, they are not at their prime, in my opinion; they need some time to recover from the effort. I find them better in mid-autumn through early spring, personally.

Bulots and moules are pretty good around now, though.

We visited in late September a few years ago. We did not look for a restaurant. We bought ours from the several vendors along the beach and sat with our plates in our laps. My 21 year old nephew did not want to try any. An experienced parent would likely not have argued but I did and he ended up eating nearly 2 dozen. $$$ but one of the best days of our trip! And a new oyster lover was born.

We drove around the bay from Mt. St. Michel in time for lunch. We parked and walked along the waterfront where there were several restaurants/cafes to choose from. We had the fresh oysters which were scrumptious. We were there in October so the advice about oysters in their prime should be noted. Good luck.
