Looking for recommendations for a small hotel or B&B (especially w/twin beds, a/c and a pool) in or near Vaison la Romain, and another one near Beaucaire or Tarascon (between Avignon and Nimes). And how about in Marseille or Cassis? Or is there a good SANDY beach option west of Cassis and east of Aigues Mortes? While we're at it, how about a nice boat or jeep tour of the Camargue? We're hoping to see horses, flamingos and/or bulls there this July. And your favorite small bus winery tour in Provence? Feel free to mention anything else you think we ought to know :)
I'm very much interested in the sandy beach question and the Camargue tour question too.
We are staying in a Gite in Tarascon that has all of the things you mentioned, but as it is a Gite, it requires a Sat-Sat booking. Here's the info (note that this what we booked - for 1 week in July 2015, but haven't actually stayed there yet): http://www.vrbo.com/673476a
Thanks,
Matt
For Vaison la Romain check out the web site for Hotel le Beffroi and see what you think. We would stay there again in a heart beat. www. le-beffroi.com. TC
Likely not with a pool, but check out the places in the old city of Vaison la Romain...fantastic experience. I stayed in the Episcopal (?) Bishops palace a few years ago and it was absolutely fantastic....and the restaurant just down the street is to be remembered...
There is a sandy beach in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. It's a cute town too.
Thanks all for the help - will check suggested websites. Any thoughts about Marseille - lodging or things to see/do? What is the town of Tarascon like? Beaucaire looks nice and interesting, but not much info about hotels there. We can only stay 3 days in that area, so most gites are out :( Good to know about sandy beaches in Stes Marie-de-la-Mar! Not clear in the reading.
Vaison la Romain's Hotel le Beffroi is in the old city and does have a pool. TC
Here's a thread that I started 6 months ago about Tarascon.

Not to put a damper on your plans, but during a 8 day bike ride through Provence, we were told to bypass the Camargue because of the mosquitos. This was in September.
