Can Anybody Provide Advice on Tarascon in Provence

I've found a well rated and nice looking gite in Tarascon that I am considering booking for 1 week next July because (1) it fits our family, (2) it is centrally located for our site seeing objectives, and (3) it is well rated (26 5 star review on VRBO). From a pure accomodations standpoint, this is the best option I've seen in Provence, considering price, size, location, etc.

However, I've never heard of this town. A web search yields very little except for some one sentence comments on trip advisor advising not to stay there. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt

My wife and i stayed there five years ago and used it as a base for travel in the region. We had a very nice time, walked all over the town and went to the castle several times. We don't remember any specific restaurants, and probably got from a grocery.Jim

Been there. Nothing wrong with it. It's not refurbished to wow the tourists like the hill towns and is, in fact, in the Rhone plain, but it's well known among the French, is famous for its Provencal material/tablecloths/curtains/etc., the castle is well known, has another famous castle directly across the Rhone--Beaucastel, has summer festivals, and there is a legend about the Tarasque of Tarascon. Enjoy.

Thanks a lot - these posts are very helpful. I'm going to book it. The location could not be more central to what I want to see during the week, the reviews are great, it has a pool which will be greatly appreciated by the kids, and it is 600 euros cheaper than similar places with pools in the more popular towns. This is the middle leg of a 3 week trip (Beynac in week 1 and Annecy in week 3) and although if traveling with just my wife we would go without, I figured a pool would be beneficial for the kids.

Thanks again - this forum is such a great resource. No question seems too tricky and the responses are so fast. Much appreciated!

Our guidebook co-author for France says he is "highly in favor" of Tarascon.
