Easter Sunday 2025 Mass @ Notre Dame (Paris)

Hi Everyone-

Does anyone have experience with attending Easter Sunday Mass at Notre Dame? We are having trouble finding a definitive Holy Week schedule on their website (or others). Any idea how crowded we should expect it to be (especially this year following the fire)? Any entrance point suggestions? Other hints?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Here is a tentative schedule that was posted on Reddit by Quasimodaaa, aka emilyofnotredame, who is a member here and I'm sure wouldn't mind me sharing her link. She has an incredible amount of information in here, including a tentative Mass schedule that she has promised to keep updating. But this should get you started. Just scroll down to the Mass schedule:

I was looking at this schedule last night.

I could very easily be tempted to travel to Paris specially on a day trip for the 9am services of Tenebrae. I am used to Tenebrae in the Anglican and American Episcopal traditions where it is an evening service- in the Anglican tradition up to 3 hours long and in a complex mixture of English, Greek and Latin.

It is an intriguing prospect to see the Office as a breakfast time service- going back to it's origins as a Dawn service.

Hi! The full schedule and details about Easter Masses and services haven't been announced/confirmed yet, but tentatively...

Thursday, April 17th:

  • Tenebrae: 9:00am

  • Mass: 7:00pm

Friday, April 18th:

  • Tenebrae: 9:00am

  • Veneration of the Crown of Thorns: 10:00am-5:00pm

  • Procession of the Stations of the Cross: 12:00pm and 3:00pm

  • Mass: 7:00pm

Saturday, April 19th:

  • Tenebrae: 9:00am

  • Vigil: 9:00pm

Sunday, April 20th:

  • Ecumenical Celebration: 4:00pm

  • Vespers: 4:30pm

  • Masses: 8:30am, 10:00am (Gregorian), 11:30am (International), 6:00pm

Yes, I expect it to be VERY busy. Evening Masses are already full/near full. Easter is one of the busiest times of the year at Notre Dame, plus as you said, it will be be the first Easter after the reopening. I attended a special event/Corsican Mass yesterday afternoon at Notre Dame and it was packed at maximum capacity. People arrived 3+ hours in advance. On Christmas Eve, I heard it was up to a 2 hour wait. I attended, but I was already inside by the time people started queuing (I arrived/entered the queue on December 24th at 6:03am, I was the first inside at 7:48am and by the time I was outside again, it was 1:42am on December 25th...)

This hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but I'm guessing that operations during Easter will be similar to how they was during Christmas. There were no visitor time slots available on December 24th or 25th, and there were no advanced reservations available for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Masses//liturgical services. Entrance for both visitors and for those attending Mass/services was on a first come, first serve basis (and was subject to the available capacity inside the cathedral).

Mardee already mentioned and shared my Reddit post (thanks you!), that I continuously keep up to date. Tips for entrance tips are on there and updates to the Easter schedule will be posted there as well.

famous Bill 19th,
Even at local parishes here in the states, Easter vigil masses and Easter day masses are usually packed. Standing room only. I wouldn't plan on attending mass at Notre Dame on Easter. However, Paris has so many Catholic churches that you can find one to attend services. Go to mass times.org and all the Catholic churches will be listed (alphabetically, I believe), and their address, phone # and websites will be there. Mass times are listed, but Easter may have some different times. Services will not have the cachet of ND, but mass is mass, and you will undoubtedly hear wonderful music as well. St. Sulpice has the wonderful organ, and most churches will have their best choirs for at least one of their Easter masses.

jaddou87,
You can go to masstimes.org. Enter the city and all the Catholic churches should be listed alphabetically. The address and phone number and website info are there, so you can see the mass times for Sundays on the websites. I imagine some churches may have extra masses for Easter, or possibly some changes or omissions, and times for Easter Vigil Services as well. We have found what we needed in many countries (Turkey, Ireland, France, Spain, Chile, Egypt, Kenya, and many different states). You may have to call them to verify Easter mass times, unless the specify Easter times on the website. Best wishes!

Hi famousbill19!

Below is the updated/confirmed schedule for Masses/services during Holy Week and Easter. In an effort to "put everything in one place", I also just created a separate forum topic with all the details about visiting Notre Dame during Holy Week and Easter: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/a-guide-to-visting-notre-dame-during-holy-week-easter-resource

No time slots/reservations will be available from Sunday, April 13th until after Sunday, April 20th, and there are no advanced reservations for Masses/services.

If you are attending a Mass/service, you can enter in the "Mass and services only" queue. It's on the right side (if you're facing/looking at Notre Dame), and it's marked by a small white sign. Entrance starts 30 minutes ahead of the start time of whichever Mass/service you're attending. But if attending is really important to you, I recommend arriving 1 hour in advance, due to the large number of people that are expected to attend. Entrance is still subject to the available capacity inside the cathedral.

Certain services are at different hours than usual and/or are not happening during Holy Week/Easter (see individual notes beside each one):

Sunday, April 13th (Palm Sunday):

  • Morning Mass/Palm Sunday Mass at 8:30am

Note: There is no Vespers

  • Evening Mass/Mass of the Lord's Supper led by the Archbishop of Paris at 7:00pm (instead of the usual 6:00pm)
