How early does one need to arrive at Marseille airport for a flight departing at 6:30 AM? I'm assuming our flight is considered international because our final destination is the US, although we have a connecting flight in Amsterdam. I've read 3 hours ahead is advised for international flights, meaning we'd need to be there at 3:30 AM. Is the airport even open that early? Can I even expect to be able to get transport from a hotel in the Vieux Port area at that time of night, or should I give up our last night in Marseille and stay at an airport hotel with a shuttle?

There is another thread in the forums as well that is worth checking out. Fwiw, we had no trouble with a 6:00 flight out of Seville last year.

This is not an international flight just because you are connecting in Amsterdam to a flight to the US. It is a flight within the Schengen Zone and your passport control will occur in Amsterdam. There is no need to arrive at the Marseilles airport at 3:30. Aim to arrive 2 hours before the flight. I’ve flown out of Marseilles airports on early AM flights and arriving 3 hours early for a flight to Amsterdam is overkill. I actually think 90 minutes is enough time but I would err on the side of caution.

If you arrive that early you will be waiting for the ticket desks to open to check in.

Marseille Provence airport is out in the countryside but it has a number of chain hotels on its fringes. With some research you might find a hotel to stay at your final night and one that offers a shuttle service at all hours. The airport website, by the way, is very useful.
