I will have a rental car while traveling in and around Normandy/Bayeux in September.
Then heading to the Netherlands/ Haarlem region.
To avoid rental car fees by taking the car across borders from France to Netherlands, I need to drop my car somewhere and get to Haarlem all in one day. Do I drop it at the same place I picked it up (CDG) and then navigate by train to Haarlem? If anyone ever done that specific route I'd like to know how you did it. Thanks!
We are in a similar situation this spring. We are dropping our car off in Lille, France then taking the train to Ghent/Belgium from there. It would be a 4 1/2 hour drive to Lille from Bayeux. Looks like you can be in Haarlem in about 3 hours by train from Lille. (So it's a long travel day.) You could also drop the car off in Bayeux/Caen or somewhere like that and then take the train from there. It would route you by train to Paris, then onward.
Drop off CDG then fly to Amsterdam then take the train from Amsterdam airport directly to Haarlem
If you drop the car in Lille you can do some sightseeing in Rouen, Amiens, Arras and Lille itself is nice too. The drive is most of the time boring amd it will be a busy day. Here a comparable question a few days ago, but in opposite direction: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/transportation-from-lille-to-bayeux
