Hello, I am planning a trip to France in May. I am planning to spend a few days in Loire valley in Amboise. Any recommendations for a good B&B? Thank you
We stayed in Chateau de Pray just outside of Amboise. Its featured in RS Burgundy program. We were surprised that it fit our budget, but it probably depends on time of year. Their restaurant is Michelin starred and is wonderful and a decent value. It was a fun experience to stay in an actual chateau! You would need a car.
Thank you for the great recommendation. I am checking it out. We plan on having a car so that's good to know!
We stayed at a charming RS recommended B&B in Amboise called La Grange: http://www.la-grange-amboise.com. Large, clean nicely decorated rooms in a quiet neighborhood which is just a short walk to the town center. Owner, Yveline, is very sweet and helpful. I noticed that her prices are more reasonable than other hotels/B&Bs in Amboise. We had a wonderful 3 night stay.
Another vote for La Grange B&B in Amboise. My daughter and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at this quiet B&B.
We didn't have a car, so not sure of parking though.
Enjoy your trip!
We have stayed at La Grille Dorée twice -- low-key place with 2 or 3 comfortable bedrooms upstairs from owner's home, breakfast delivered to a kitchen area, secure parking provided (car or bike required to get the 5 minutes from central Amboise.)
Thank you all for the great recommendations!
Here is another recommendation. We stayed at this place on a return trip. The house is historic, the breakfast was lovely and the owner charming. It is modestly priced. http://irisdesmarais.com/
Thank you. I am checking it out now
We stayed at Chateau de Nazelles, a few miles outside of Amboise, a few years ago. Loved it and would definitely stay there again. http://www.chateau-nazelles.com/
There are some other Amboise recommendations in this thread: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/hotels-in-loire-valley
We stayed in an apartment rather than a B & B in Amboise. It was called Les Clos des Alouettes. Very comfortable, a little way out of town (we were on foot so not that far). It was a simple loft bedroom/bathroom with kitchenette and small lounge downstairs. Family operation, attached to the family home. It was nice to have the kitchen for a few days rather than eating out.
Thank you! I will check into this. It sounds lovely.
