Hotels in Loire Valley?

We are visiting the Loire Valley for four nights. The first two we will stay at a renovated farm near Samur which features an immersive food and wine program. For the second two nights, we'd like to stay east of Tours. I've narrowed down our choices to five properties and wonder if anyone has any insights into these.

Relais du Silence Château de Perreux - across the river from Amboise
Château de Nazelles - across the river from Amboise
Le Pavillon Des Lys - in Amboise
Hotel Au Charme Rabelaisien - in Amboise
Hôtel Valezieux - in Rochecorbon, east of Tours

I can suggest which hotel not to stay at. Don't stay at the Rick Steves suggested hotel, Hotel Bellevue. The location is good, the staff is good, the building itself is poor. Plumbing/Mildew issues in both rooms I was in.

Thanks. Unfortunately, Auberge Du Bon Laboureur is fully booked for our dates. I'm holding rooms at several of these other properties, which is why I specifically asked about them. Need to make a decision and cancel rooms we won't use.

No insights on the hotels you're considering, but I'm so envious of your stay in Saumur! Years ago I was scheduled to do a farm visit there, but the proprietor called me (while I was traveling in Italy!) to say she had to cancel due to some sort of personal emergency. I am still hoping to make it to Saumur someday. I hope your stay there will be wonderful!

We stayed at Chateau de Nazelles almost two years ago and enjoyed it very much - we would definitely stay there again. The property is relatively small, but very pretty. The owners were on vacation when we were there, but the "substitute" host was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. We stayed in La Tour on the second floor. Our room was comfortable, had a large bathroom, and a view overlooking the valley. Lots of choices offered at breakfast, though I don't believe there was a hot dish if that's important to you. Parking in the courtyard was a bit tight but everyone made it work. Happy to answer any other questions you have about our experience there.

Thanks, Betsy. What time of year did you stay there? I was just wondering was it okay without A/C? We are going at the end of September. I think the temperature will be fine then so that we won't need A/C, but just curious about your experience? Also, how did you like the bathroom in your room. I'm a stickler for a nice bathroom. Finally, did y'all venture to Amboise at night for dinners? Did the hotel make suggestions?

@epltd - we are staying at La Grande Maison d'Arthenay. I'm quite excited about the experience. This place has stellar reviews and many repeat visitors who have returned multiple times. The only complaint from most reviews is the reviewer wishes they'd stayed longer.

We were there around the 3rd week of October so I can't speak to the A/C situation. You could always ask if they would be able to give you a fan for your room in the event that it's warm. I liked the bathroom - I remember it being spacious, having a good shower, good towels to the best of my memory. We went to Amboise for dinner on 2 nights. The temporary host gave us recommendations and made reservations for us - I'll have to try to dig up the restaurant names though; on that trip I was not good about writing down all the places we ate, so I have plenty of photos of the food but need to track down the restaurant names. I'll reply back here if I can find them.

Updated: Actually that was easier than I expected. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel La Breche, on the opposite side of the river from the chateau (which means parking is easier). Very warm, friendly, family feel to the restaurant and hotel. We did the tasting menu and the food was very good - a bit more fine dining than the 2nd restaurant but not at all formal. We also ate at Chez Bruno which is nearer the chateau - classic French bistro food - escargots, duck confit, steak frites, foie gras terrine - also very good. I'd go back to both places.

We did the Loire Valley chateau tour and stayed at Le Manior les Minimes in Amboise. It was a joy to come home every night to such a gorgeous home and we loved the charm of Amboise. If you need a good location in Amboise I would suggest this spot.....beautiful old home filled with charm.
