We have a car and I have been looking at Michelin Map taking directions under "discovery" option. Takes us thru Morzine/Le Gets area on way to Chamonix. Looking for room/hotel in some town no more then 2 hours from Chamonix. Any particular towns/cities in area that we should find a room/hotel? I looked a little in Morzine...we need room for a Friday nite, seemed many are booked already.
There are many ways to drive from Gruyeres to Chamonix so if there is a city or area you have experienced that we might enjoy too please let me know. Hotel and restaurant suggestion would be helpful. Price range flexible if nice view.or exceptional food.

Check out Annecy in France. Quite nr chamonix.

I'm a bit confused by your question.
Are you looking to stay somewhere between Gruyères & Chamonix, even though it's only a 1H 46 minute drive between these 2 places (according to Google map)?
Annecy is a beautiful place, but it would make more sense to travel to Chamonix first, then to continue on to Annecy.
I don't think you realize that you wrote your post under the heading of 'Hotel & Restaurant Reviews'.
