Restaurants

Will be in Paris this Sept. Looking for restaurant suggestions in the following areas: 17th Arr [where we will be staying], Marais, Montmartre, Museum District {along Seine], We enjoy local [non- tourist] low key type eateries. Last summer when visiting Rome, we got great suggestions from the Forum.
Thanks, Joe

Very little specific for you, but I had good luck just doing web searches and sorting out reviews, along with finding areas just outside the "tourist zone", however you define that. A final walk-by would help confirm.

A couple places to consider, if your tastes run that way...

  • The well known Relais de l'Entrecote has several locations, maybe "touristy" but the locals like it as well, they only serve Steak Frites, but do a good job (they only ask how you want your steak done and what you want to drink).
  • Ran across a place called L'Ilot (4 Rue de la Corderie, 75003) just outside of the Marais, small, maybe more of an Oyster Bar than restaurant, but had a very pleasant meal of Cockles, herring, and tuna carpacchio with a nice wine. Might be worth a look to check out the neighborhood, a number of restaurants in the immediate area looked like nice places out of the tourist onslaught.

Michelin has been reviewing and rating French restaurants, esp. in Paris, for over a hundred years. The Red Guide, not the Green Guide series. You used to have to buy the book (how last century?) but now it's available online.

Glad to help. I have the impression that the Michelin Red Guide is considered authoritative by locals, as well as travelers, who are looking for a good dining experience.
