Volkswagen Currywurst

It is true that Volkswagen produces its own Currywurst (curry sausage) since 1973, currently in their Service Factory unit. The VW Currywurst sold better than ever before. 8.552 million units were sold in canteens and supermarkets in 2024. This means that the Group sold more sausages than cars under the VW core brand: the 8.5 million sausages were offset by around 5.2 million cars and vans with the VW logo in 2024.

So, travelers stopping at Wolfsburg (train between Berlin and Hanover) and / or visiting VW Autostadt can get a taste.

Believe it or not: the Currywurst has an own part number: 199 398 500 A. I do not know if people can order it at a US-based VW car dealer.

I've had the Volkswagen Curry Wurst :-). Volkswagen is one of our customers and I spend some time at the plant in Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg is a weird, but boring place, so I would normally stay somewhere around Berlin Spandau and commute in every day.

The Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg is huge. It has its own internal bus network, and we would ride it to go and have lunch at one of the many on site restaurants. They have two power plants. A large fraction of the people I would encounter were Chinese. All spoke perfect German :-)
