If you are hungry at the Place de la Catalonia in Barcelona, look for the itapa buffet: all you can eat for 12.95 euros. Oh, my goodness, how we loved the food after such crummy dining experiences elsewhere! I am a vegetarian, and my husband is a carnivore, and we were both thrilled. He ate three desserts and two servings of chicken. I appreciated the pasta, rice, and vegetable dishes and the exquisite champage (not part of the price fixee, of course). He loved the full-sized tasty coca-colas. He vowed to return for dinner, but we were too footsore to make our way there again. I looked up the restaurant and was astounded at the bad reviews. Don't believe them.

If you would walk one block west towards the University plaza you will find streets lined with reasonable restaurants that are almost all much better quality, and full of friendly students. Continue two more blocks west, and the prices will halve again.

I find it hard to ignore the significant numbers of poor reviews and food tastes are so subjective that it would be dificult to base a decision on the advice of one person particularly when it flies in the face of so many others.
As another poster has already stated, move away from Las Ramblas and you'll find cheaper and better food.
